iOS and Android keyboard

Android APK available now; updated iOS and Android Store releases are being prepared. The Layergram system keyboard encrypts text on your device before inserting it into a compatible chat. Write in its editor, select a verified recipient and insert the encrypted text. You then press Send in the chat. The recipient uses Layergram to decrypt it. The system keyboard is free.

## A keyboard for encrypting message content

This is mobile software input, not a physical keyboard. It turns a message into encrypted text for a verified recipient; choosing a keyboard with fewer data collection practices does not do the same job. It does not hide chats or change a messaging app's encryption settings.

## How to send and read a message

Fewer app switches. On Android and iOS, write and read with Layergram from the keyboard in the chats you already use.

- **Write privately**: Choose your verified contact and compose your text in the Layergram keyboard editor.

- **Encrypt and insert**: The keyboard inserts encrypted text into the chat input. Then press the send button in your messaging app.

- **Send from your chat**: The message is ready in the input field. Tap Send in the chat to deliver it to the recipient through your usual channel.

- **Paste and decrypt**: Copy an incoming message and open it in the Layergram editor, keeping the plaintext out of the chat.

Android APK available now. Store updates are being prepared.

### The session expires. The convenience stays.

If enabled, reopen the keyboard with Face ID or your phone’s biometrics after the session expires.

## How to enable the keyboard on iPhone and Android

The system keyboard is optional. The in-app flow remains available.

- First create or restore your identity in Layergram and verify the contact you want to communicate with.

- In Layergram Settings, enable “System keyboard”, then complete the Android or iOS prompts and select it in your chat.

- You can enable biometric reopening. System permissions, including clipboard access, remain under your control.

### iOS

On iPhone, enable Layergram among your keyboards in iOS Settings and complete the permissions requested by the app. In your chat, use the globe to select it.

### Android

On Android, enable Layergram in the keyboard settings and select it as the chat input method. Follow the instructions Layergram shows during setup.

## WhatsApp, Messages, Telegram and other apps

Use the keyboard in apps that accept third-party keyboards and messages of the required length. Some apps or text fields may restrict its use. The system keyboard currently supports encrypted text mode.

## System keyboard and internal keyboard: the difference

### Free system keyboard

iOS/Android system keyboard to use Layergram directly in other apps, with an optional shuffled key layout.

### Premium internal keyboard

An app keyboard that replaces the system keyboard only inside Layergram, keeping your typing out of the system keyboard. You can also shuffle the positions of the characters.

## What it protects and what the chat still knows

Layergram encrypts content on the device before inserting it into the chat. The messaging platform can still know contacts, times and other metadata. Compromised devices, external cameras and the recipient’s actions remain outside this protection.

## Keyboard questions

### Does the keyboard send the message automatically?

No. It only inserts encrypted text into the chat input. To send it, press the send button in your messaging app.

### Does the recipient need Layergram too?

Yes. Both of you create or restore a Layergram identity, then exchange and verify identities once. The recipient copies the received message and pastes it into the Layergram keyboard to decrypt it.

### Which modes does the keyboard support?

It currently supports encrypted text. Cover messages and Layergram links remain available in the app workflow; the keyboard does not offer them as sending options.

### Is the system keyboard available on computers too?

No. The system keyboard is a mobile feature for iOS and Android. On macOS and Windows, use the workflow inside the Layergram app.
